In August 2021 we took the train to North Berwick from Edinburgh for a reunion with Ness and Stefan, the first time the four of us had been together in far too long and the first time knowing that cancer was part of Ness's life. We had a very special and relaxing time in their garden, and of course eating and drinking. Ness was extremely good at making guests feel welcome, that nothing was too much trouble and at making little of her own discomfort. She was smiley and apparently at ease, making sure I guess that her situation didn't take away from a delightful occasion. But it did of course below the surface, because cancer is so cruel and takes away so much. There was only one further time that we were able to spend time together, and again she was very strong. Her approach to her illness was inspiring and I love the haiku she wrote - we will always remember her with love.
